Carl Sandburg College has been awarded an $8,120 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support English Language Acquisition classes through Sandburg’s Corporate & Leisure College.

The grant will allow Sandburg to offer the course free of charge for up to 60 adult ELA learners in 2020-21 and expand its ELA offering to the Branch Campus in Carthage. Grant funds will also be used to cover instructor salary, supplies and testing materials. ELA classes help students improve their listening, speaking, writing and reading skills

“Being able to expand and enhance our English Language Acquisition program is extremely exciting,” Corporate & Leisure College Director Stacey Rucker said. “We’re thrilled to be able to start offering these courses to citizens in and around Hancock County, and we’re very grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for helping make this possible.”
